Nia is a holistic fitness programme offering a whole-body, mind and spirit workout. It was developed in the USA in 1983 by Debbie and Carlos Rosas. Developed to move the body, the way it loves to move, the way it was designed to move THE BODY'S WAY. The main principle of Nia is the Joy of Movement - moving the Body's Way to find pleasure, healing and fitness.
Nia gives people the opportunity to explore their body and the way it moves, whilst achieving the many benefits listed above. It is fitness developed through the sensation of Joy and Pleasure rather than effort and pain. With regular practice Nia can be life transforming for the body, mind and spirit. During a class you will be encouraged to move and develop in YOUR way and in YOUR natural time, whilst experiencing the great energy that comes from a community feeling in the class enviornment. Nia balances technical precision with opportunity for free and personalised expression. Nia is non-impact and is taught at 3 difference levels of intensity so you can personalise the workout to suit YOUR body. Nia is practed barefoot in loose, comfortable clothing. A Nia class is a carefully choregraphed, hour-long routine incorporating a dynamic blend of the above movement forms, put to a range of wonderful music styles. The Nia Technique is comprised of 13 main principles and 52 basic moves.
